Drink and Smoke but have a cap on it

I decided to write this after I incidentally attended a party on Friday (25th Dec 2009). It was simple “These are the seeds to another Ganesh Situation.
*************************************************************

The crying of two small kids out side of an ICU,
The Pain of a Mother of 2 small Kids,
The Traffic Jam in the studies of a student.

Can you guys, guess what is the reason for the above 3 incidents?
They have a similarity, which is well known to all of us.
Two small kids are crying with out full knowledge of the incident, otherwise they wouldn’t have cried. The 2 children’s mother wouldn’t have felt the pain, if she is not in fear of her husband’s life. The studies of a student would not be in a Jam, if his brother listened to his well wishers words (family members and true friends)

When we look back for the reason, you know how simple it is, you may feel Ohh My God, and such a small thing can stop this kind of Disturbances in family life.
Let me tell you what that is I.e. taking smoke, alcohols and high costly drinks without, considering the future impact and calling it as “Enjoy Today”.
*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*

Ganesh gets money through his business, which he started at the age of 20 on his own. His parents are very happy about the business and his conduct. He married a woman who studied up to 10th class. At the time of his marriage he was 23 and she was 18. Now they are proud parents for two small kids (one boy and one girl they are below 6 years I guess). People like me and his parents know that he is a hard worker, earning good money, has a small and lovely family.

Just two moths back, my mother was telling about Ganesh, that Ganesh is admitted in Big Hospital in Vijayawada, and doctors are not able to give any assurance for his life. I was shocked and reconfirmed the name. When I asked the reason for the admission, she was telling astonishing facts. I called my uncle whose residence is in the same town of Ganesh, then I realised the picture.

He has stated the business, and to his luck it was prosperous, going very fine. At the same time he made lot of business friends, who initially encouraged him to smoke and drink. With the name of “enjoyment and celebrating success.” He just started it to taste and later he became occasional drinker. It did not take too much time to addict to the same. His wife knows it, but scared to tell anyone, considering his family reputation. She would have raised her voice, if she is financially independent and has some secure job. He used to stay in friends houses and in hotels when he drinks and describes it as a business activity.

Things were going like this for quite some time. He realised very lately that, his health is getting spoiled and visited a doctor, after checking the reports Doctor warned do not smoke and drink hence forth, other wise you will be in trouble. He listened to the doctor, and tried to avoid the dangerous enjoyments. He realised that he not only played with his life, but also his family well being as well.

After one month of his visit to the doctor, he had to travel to his friend’s marriage. Again the situation is same, Let’s Partyyy… Let’s Enjoy….he forgot everything, he neglected doctor’s advice, and finally he had to be admitted in ICU.

This did not happen in one month or one year. This process took 10 complete years and may be more. Today because of his enjoyment his two innocent kid’s life is in stake, His wife is scared about his life. His brother left his studies to take care of the things in a big Hospital. His academic year is gone.

He enjoyed his life, at the same time he invited others to be part of his life, and he became a father for two kids. Do you guys think, he would have thought about his wife, kids, parents, other family members and family reputation? I do not think so; he wouldn’t have seen the current circumstances when he just tasted smoke/drink. Otherwise he would have seen a picture in his mind which is like “smoke covered his family’s future” like now. He would have seen another picture “The drinks are getting drained in to the see along with his family’s future and his reputation.”
*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*

So it is just matter of time to realise its impact to stop anything. I did not write this, seeking realisation in my friends approach, but to tell them one possibility that can happen if anyone addict to drink/smoke. I firmly believe that “Our surroundings and determination will decide our future” so choose them very carefully.

I am not a doctor to declare that smoking and drinking in very less quantities (less no. of times) would not do any harm, but to my knowledge it is true. So to the guys who have already started, “drink and smoke but have a cap on it”, please keep a healthy limit to your consumption of alcohols and tobacco. And the guys who are thinking to start “read the above mentioned incident 3 more times".

Thanks for reading,
Yogesh Thandava.

Indian Railways*** Now you can Demand for better service*** Just a phone Call!!!

When I was travelling to Vizag, for Shanthi & Shravan’s Marriage (My Engineering Classmates), I met one person named PUNAM (A business man with high self respect and integrity); he explained how he raised his voice against the cheating of rail vendors to the top level.

Process: You can call any number in the below list

® 011-23345300 (Central Control),
® 011-23221147 (North Zone),
® 033-266601743 (East Zone),
® 040-27716145 (South Central Zone),
® 022-22618067 (West Zone) and
® 044-25353341 (South Zone).

They will tell you the rest. They will come to you in the same station (if you have at least 15 min time) or they will come to you in next station, they take written complaint, and they follow up, give you updates on the actions as well;
Even I did not believe it, but Punam showed the proofs.

It is so simple; believe me it works in real time; if you think the one rupee or one meal does not bother you much, but it bothers as many as 20 million passengers everyday, your voice may help the 20 million people.

We as people of India might, criticize the administration of many facilities, and every one want to see a difference in the same, but no one knows (or very few) the way to do it, so guys, here we know a way, so lets do it;

Article 23: Right against Exploitation

FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS as per Indian Constitution
Article 23: Right against Exploitation
(1) Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.

(2) Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.

(3) Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection.

(4) Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests.
Source: http://www.youthportal.gov.in/rightsandresponsibilities.htm

(To the folks who does not know what are fundamental rights:- The fundamental rights are framed by our leaders during post independence to make sure, every one is treated equally, in an environment of freedom, without giving chance to loose our freedom again; you can find more in Google)

Point 1:
When an organization feels that, its business outlook is not good, they fire the employees with few (like 2 or 3) months salary. They have all the evil reasons to fire an employee only at the time of recession. When we look at the same issue, with small companies; they fire even a good employee to save their margins. The company creates unemployment.
I personally like the HCL director’s statement “When we want to fire an employee during the time of recession, the CEO, CFO should be fired first” (this is my understanding of his statement).
Who is responsible, is the organization responsible for this?
Or the Govt. which shows great love to the GDP producing companies at the cost of Human Values. Companies should have comprehensive polices like, the one which is offered By Mahindra Satyam (It is almost 9 months soft plan to terminate an employee)

Point 2:
How many companies are paying equal for the equal work?
At the time of recruitment itself they pay low for a student from a local college and high for a student from a reputed college for the same work
Even when they recruit laterals they pay based on the employee demand and the current market. To my understanding and visibility there is no concept of equal pay for equal work in Indian Private Organizations. Recently corporate companies started recruiting BSC Graduates for very less pays than the industry average, I heard from many of my friends that even they participate in all activities that a BE graduate do.

Point 3:
This is a major concern, and one of main reasons for me to state “Independence is going back”.
When a employee work, 9 hours he will be paid some X amount,
When employee works 9 + N hours, he will be paid the same X ????
Is this not Exploitation?
Is this not against Indian Constitution article 23?
I understand that, there are no systems which can exactly track the working hours of an employee. But cannot we develop it. Yes!!! We can develop it.
But why the organizations are not doing? It will eat the organizations overall profit, so that margins will be low Stakeholders will not be satisfied if the company has fewer margins?
Are the employees not stakeholders? As per the meaning, employees are stakeholders, but they are not satisfied as the other stakeholders are satisfied (like client, share holders)

Point 4:
Where are the unions in private organizations? The Company heads are the UNIONS.
What ever they say, that is final, if they make a policy that is final, they professionally say, they consider employee opinion, and they professionally receive the same. And in the same way they ignore it. They can make policies over night for their benefit. They do every thing as per the organization requirement at the cost of employee morale. They create lot of unions, but they work UNDER company HEADS.

The fundamental rights given to the INDIANS by the great leaders, after fighting against slavery are, not being protected by You!!! I understand that the leaders of the country are busy in counting the GDP growth and not considering the Human factors. I understand we as a developing nation, have to strive hard to give the best to all our people, but not at the cost of the people who are working for it. When there were industrial revolutions, people worked even for 16 to 17 hours in many developing countries like Japan. They were motivated by nationalism and pay for the work policies, today they are a developed country.
Finally, it is your responsibility to save your rights, and no one comes to save your rights.

So my dear INDIANS you have a fundamental right to not get exploited,
Just make sure you don’t’ get exploited, just for Baaaad Planning.
Thanks for reading.

My Day Dreams Are:

  • Companies should have comprehensive polices like, the one which is offered By Mahindra Satyam (It is almost 9 months soft plan to terminate an employee)
  • Plan better and Pay for work on hourly basis.
  • Create Diff Job Functions And pay the same to all employess for the same function irrespective of their education background.
  • Create employee UNIONS just with employees and not Company heads.

I Tried keeping the length as low as possible as per the genuine feed back i got from Senthil, And John.

Why Are we working till Late Night ???

Recently I was watching one Telugu movie “Rechhipo” (A person who steals the property of rich people and share with poor people), There is a scene where he enters into a old women's house accidentally, then that woman asks him,

who r u? Why did you come at this time?
Can you guys guess the answer...?

The answer iiis... I am S/W Engineer; I have just finished my work!!! :)
I came here to ask your vacant house for rent...
The Paradigm of S/W profession has become this way...It is deeply into the minds of the people,
But the reality is different...Let c how that goes...

[It is not only applicable to S/W Industry, but also to Engineering, Manufacturing Industries... and to many may be..]

Q) When I ask a person why are you working till late night?
[I have kept the different answers in different categories to discuss further
C1- Category one, A1- Answer one]

C1_A1) I have no work in my room,
C1_A2) Who the hell are looking for me at room,
C1_A3) I have no PC & no Internet in room,
C1_A4) No Free coffee/tea machines, no free phone and no A/C...
C1_A5) For my lover.
C1_A6) I am just chilling out here…

C2_A1) Duuude, I came at 11.30 AM…
C2_A2) I have taken many breaks, so have to finish my work.
C2_A3) I did not work properly yesterday, so I am doing it now.
C2_A4) I was in Share Trading whole the day, so I have to finish my work.
C2_A5) I was on phone for long time in the day, so I have to finish my work

C3_A1) I don’t have peace in my house with my wife/husband/other.
C3_A2) Lot of headaches in my home.
C3_A3) I hate that bugger so go home just to sleep for this day.

C4_A1) my manger gave me work when I was just packing for the day.
C4_A2) I could not understand the work, so taking long time.
C4_A3) I am learning more, this is my personal interest.
C4_A4) We have given commitment to client, we have to finish the work.
C4_A5) I will be on leave after one week, so I have to finish this work before I leave.
C4_A6) My manager was not available to assign work till afternoon, and he has given asked to finish by EOD

C5_A1) I have to stay Yaaar…Others are staying late.
C5_A2) I am fresher, I have to stay to learn more ASAP
C5_A3) I have to show-off that I am working hardly.

The above are some of the very few reasons that would make any employee to stay till late night and it is in our hands to live the way we want when we stick to the basic principles of employment. If we do not stick to the basic principles, we would live as others want!!!

Guess the categories …
We will discuss further…

Independence is going back

  • This is what I remember from my History classes;
    400 Years Back… (This is not Maghadheer (Telugu Movie) story…)
    Foreigners came to INDIA for trading, they were getting the best things for the lowest prices in the world, so the competitive price advantage is more for the companies that trade with INDIA; As this business truth was realized by many competitors, they also started trading with INDIA; The EIC (East INDIA Company) was not interested to take over the administration as their objective is just business, but because of stringent
    Tax system, regulations and entry of competitors, EIC had to take over INDIAN administration;

    There it started, loosing of INDEPENDENCE for the business traits of foreigners;

    They moved the property out of INDIA, and bring in the poverty,
    They ruled with the rules, which benefit their business, and not the social interest,
    They enforced regulations such that their business will grow faster,
    They increased the taxes to moderate the infrastructure which benefit them,
    They focused the development in the areas which benefit them for their business.

    Every one like’s power, they have given that power to few folks who love money and works sincerely as per their orders. These few folks were enjoying the benefits and using INDIAN Human capital and valuable resources for the Business benefit of foreigners.

    The Social administration of EIC, which works for the business benefits, was not liked by many Young and Dynamic INDIANS. They started working with the objective of INDEPENDENCE. The young guns of INDIA with the guidance of intelligent people of India made the whole country free from the foreigners and got the Independence.

    After 400 years in 2009, with the name of out-sourcing and exports/imports, the foreigners are back into their business. Now they have studied and analyzed the peoples mind with so caaaalled “Management”, and they are using most of the Young and Dynamic Indians and Indian resources for their services; They are buying the best available in India with their money. Be it Human Capital or Himachal Apple; they are importing the best to their countries. We being influenced by other cultures are interested to get more money besides what ever we loose.

    They have created the competitiveness among the Indian business tycoons and achieving their objectives with the word of “Customer Satisfaction”. Most of the Young India is working to provide better services, solutions and products for the foreigners at the cost of their freedom and independence just for the monitory benefits. If we compare the salaries that an employee who perform task A in foreign countries and in India, the situation is known fact, the salaries are very less in India.

    Once we were a wealthy nation in terms of natural resources and cultural heritage, they entered our soil and neutralized us in both. Now we are wealthy in terms of Human capital, they have seen it, and started to utilize the same for their benefits.

    The Young India is just looking to get into any one of these outsourcing or importing or exporting companies to get better pay slips. After getting better pay slips they are using the money to purchase the foreign brands which ultimately increase the foreigner’s wealth; with this trade our govt gets taxes which are pee nuts. And the cycle is getting repeated.

    These business tycoons are the brokers (The providers of services or solutions or products) of foreigners who are working money as objective and not the social equality; these firms are placed in focussed areas where the best of INDIA is available in all means; and the Govt is developing these focused areas with out considering the entire country as one; Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Calcutta, Hyderabad are not the only India, we have 70% of people in non-developed areas, I would say non-focussed areas; The social balance is shaking as the rest of India is not focused; I firmly believe this is social injustice; The Business tycoons are deeply into the social administration to get their benefits as EIC did 400 Years Back. I do not know “When they take over the Administrations Again”. The business tycoons are influencing the govt decisions in forming few regulations, which probably I would say the sign of “Independence going back”.
    Nooo…”We are giving back Our Independence”

    What we should do…??? Open Question to all of us…To me also.

    Some of very odd ideas that I got when I was counting stars are…

    => Cost of food / health / education should be as low as possible in the rural areas;

    => EIC developed Education system has to be changed, as it defined a system which creates only followers and not the Leaders;

    => Social entrepreneurship has to be rapidly developed with an objective of creating employment in the country particularly in the rural areas; This should not work for the purpose of money, and should be for the social equality;

    => The great ideas of great people will be reflected greatly if great team is around; The great ideas will reach the needy only if every one in the great team is perfect, which is not possible in reality; so the great people have to implement these great ideas as close as possible to the needy; and definitely they should not be started in Delhi or State Capital.

    Thank you very much for reading.
